New Shows & Movies To Watch This Weekend: ‘72 Hours’ on Netflix, ‘Stuart Fails to Save the Universe’ on HBO Max and More

This weekend’s new arrivals on streaming include the Big Bang Theory spinoff Stuart Fails to Save the Universe on HBO Max, the Kevin Hart comedy 72 Hours on Netflix, and a new season of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds on Paramount+.

You can also catch the second season of Ransom Canyon on Netflix and the long-awaited (by me) streaming release of Nirvanna The Band The Show The Movie, a personal favorite film from this year that drops on Hulu on Friday.

New Movies & Shows To Stream This Weekend: 72 Hours, Stuart Fails to Save the Universe, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds and more

This weekend if full of laughs all over the place; you can check out the series premiere of Stuart Fails to Save the Universe on HBO Max, a Chuck Lorre-produced spinoff of The Big Bang Theory which stars Kevin Sussman and features appearances from tons of familiar faces from the Big Bang universe (er, multiverse). Also out this weekend is the Kevin Hart comedy 72 Hours, where he stars as a middle-aged man on a bachelor party weekend with a group of Gen Z 20-somethings. You can also check out the latest season of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds which just arrived on Paramount+.

New on Netflix July 24: 72 Hours

In the new Netflix comedy 72 Hours, Kevin Hart stars as Joe, a 40-year-old man who accidentally gets added to the group chat of a bunch of 20-somethings – Mason Gooding, Marcello Hernández, Kam Patterson, and Ben Marshall – and is inadvertently invited to a Miami bachelor party. Generational clashes and misunderstandings and a whole lot of hijinks ensue. The cast also includes Zach Cherry, Teyana Taylor and Andy Garcia; the film arrives on Friday.

New on HBO Max July 23: Stuart Fails to Save the Universe

Stuart Fails to Save the Universe is another extension of the Big Bang Theory universe, this time offering up a slightly altered version of that show’s reality. Kevin Sussman returns as comic book guy Stuart Bloom who finds himself needing to save reality after he breaks a device that triggers a multiverse Armageddon. While he’s busy juggling multiple universes, he encounters alternate-universe versions of characters we’ve come to know from The Big Bang Theory, so expect to see plenty of familiar faces like Christine Baranski, Riki Lindhome, Jon Cryer and Wil Wheaton, but perhaps not exactly as you remember their characters.

New on Paramount+ July 23: Star Trek: Strange New Worlds (Season 4)

The newest season of the Paramount+ original series Star Trek: Strange New Worlds premiered on Thursday, and new episodes will debut weekly through Sept. 24. The show stars Anson Mount as Captain Christopher Pike as he leads the crew of the U.S.S. Enterprise on journeys to the outer reaches of space. The series, now in season 4, serves as a prequel to the original Star Trek series, which ran from 1966-69.
