New mock draft predicts Georgia Tech star crashing the Orioles first round

The Baltimore Orioles are another team that knows just how important it is to hit on these first-round picks in the MLB Draft. They use these top draft picks as the engine of their franchise.

They have done well over the years, drafting players like Ryan Mountcastle, Adley Rutschman, Colton Cowser, and Jackson Holliday in the first round.

Last year, they were given the No. 19 pick, taking University of Auburn catcher Ike Irish, but this year, they will be drafting much higher as they were awarded the No. 7 pick.

New mock draft predicts Georgia Tech star crashing the Orioles first round

With the college season over and the MLB Combine taking place, front offices are getting a much clearer idea of who they may want to target.

And while a few of these draft prospects make sense for Baltimore, one name keeps popping up, and that is Georgia Tech outfielder Drew Burress. That's who Bleacher Report's Joel Reuter believes the Orioles will take with pick No. 7.

"Outside of Kentucky shortstop Tyler Bell on a potential below-slot deal, Burress appears to be the most likely candidate to crash the top-six party following a fantastic three-year career at Georgia Tech. A future center fielder with 60-grade power packed into his 5'9", 185-pound frame, he hit .357/.484/.720 with 60 home runs in 179 games during his time on campus."

Burress has an excellent chance to be the second Georgia Tech player to come off the board within the first 10 picks, as he and catcher Vahn Lackey went on an absolute tear in college, both with the bat in their hands and in the field defensively.

Burress could be an excellent pick here as he is expected to stick in center field, something many outfield draft prospects cannot say about themselves.
