Netflix boss takes swipe at Meghan Markle after streamer cuts ties with royals

Netflix boss Ted Sarandos has unfollowed Meghan Markle and her brand, As Ever, on Instagram after the streaming giant cut ties with the royal renegades.

Although Sarandos was among the first to follow the Duchess of Sussex when she returned to social media in early 2025, Page Six can confirm that he no longer follows Markle or her troubled lifestyle brand.

The 61-year-old and Netflix’s chief content officer, Bela Bajaria, reportedly made the surprising move sometime last month, according to the Daily Mail.

While Sarandos’ wife, Nicole Avant, still follows Markle on Instagram, she does not follow As Ever. A Netflix source told the Daily Mail that Avant and Markle, 44, “are still friends.”

Page Six has reached out to Sarandos and Markle’s reps for comment.

Netflix officially cut ties with the “Suits” alum and her As Ever lifestyle brand earlier this month, nearly six years after she and her husband, Prince Harry, signed an initial $100 million deal with the streamer in 2020.

The parties parted ways shortly after Markle’s lifestyle series, “With Love, Meghan,” was canceled due to poor ratings.

“Her show did not go on, so it did not make sense to continue the partnership,” an industry source told Page Six at the time.

A Netflix spokesperson also told us that the streamer was “glad to have played a role in bringing [Markle’s] vision to life” and she would continue to grow As Ever independently, “as it was always intended.”

More recently, Variety reported that Sarandos was “fed up” with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex and allegedly will not speak to Markle without a lawyer present.

Both a Netflix spokesperson and Markle’s attorney called those claims “absolutely inaccurate” and “blatantly false.”

Meanwhile, the outlet also reported that Bajaria had allegedly “grown weary” of Netflix’s deal with the Sussexes. Bajaria, however, praised both Markle and Harry.

“Archewell has been a thoughtful and collaborative partner, and we’ve really enjoyed working with Harry and Meghan,” she told Variety.

Although Netflix has cut ties with As Ever, the Sussexes still have a deal with the streamer via their Archewell Productions production company.

That deal is in a great place, an insider told Page Six, and multiple scripted and unscripted projects are said to still be in development.
