Barcelona fans are tearing into Wojciech Szczesny for his performance during their Champions League clash with Club Brugge on Tuesday night. The Pole conceded three goals in a six-goal thriller at Jan Breydel Stadium.
Barcelona looked in control in the early exchanges but surprisingly found themselves behind in the sixth minute, as Carlos Forbs beat an offside trap and squared it for Nicolo Tresoldi, who put it past Szczesny. The lead was, however, short-lived, as the Catalans restored parity two minutes later through Ferran Torres.
Brugge took the lead again in the 17th minute, catching Hansi Flick’s side on a quick counterattack. Christos Tzolis and Carlos Forbs linked up well, and the latter got the better of Szczesny in a one-on-one situation.
Barcelona rallied in response but could only find the equalizer after the hour mark as Lamine Yamal slalomed his way through the Brugge defense with the help of a one-two with Fermin Lopez before finishing with the outside of his left foot.
Club Brugge went ahead again for the third time as Forbs scored his second of the night in the 63rd minute. The Belgian side would go on to cave in to Barcelona’s pressure in the 77th minute when Christos Tzolis inadvertently headed the ball into his own net while attempting to put Yamal’s cross to safety.
Brugge could have snatched a late win in the final minute when Romeo Vermant capitalized on Szczesny’s error and put the ball into an empty net, but the Polish shotstopper's blushes was spared by VAR as the goal was ruled out for a foul.
While a few Barcelona players had a night to forget, fans were particularly critical of Szczesny’s showing in goal and took to X to voice their disappointment.

@NealGardner_ Szczesny is making me miss Ter Stegen, and that's never a good thing. Can't wait for Joan Garcia.

Hansi Flick says Barcelona lacked ‘intensity’ after 3-3 draw with Club Brugge
Barcelona boss Hansi Flick was defiant about sticking to his philosophy in the aftermath of their draw 3-3 with Club Brugge. The German tactician his side lacked intensity and failed to create enough chances.
“We can change some things, but we also have to stick to our philosophy,” Flick told reporters. “We don’t have to change our style of play; we are Barça,” he said. This isn’t about the philosophy. We can do things better. When there’s no intensity, we don’t have chances. Teams in the Champions League make very quick transitions, and Club Brugge did that very well, and we respect that. A 3-3 draw isn’t a good result, but we came from behind.”Following the result, Barcelona sit 11th in the league phase of the competition with seven points from four matches.
