Nebraska Volleyball's coach Dani Busboom Kelly opened up about the program's stadium game that broke records. The Nebraska Women's Volleyball team competed against Omaha on August 30, 2023, in an outdoor game at Memorial Stadium in Lincoln, Nebraska.

The stadium is home to the Nebraska football team. The Huskers' volleyball team overpowered Omaha in the faceoff with a dominating scoreline of 3-0 in front of the packed stadium with 92,003 fans. The team dominated the faceoff with 25-14, 25-14, 25-13, a straight sweep. The outdoor game broke multiple records, including the previous world record for women's sports attendance registered during the Champions League match between FC Barcelona and Wolfsburg on April 22, 2022, in Barcelona, Spain. 91,648 fans attended the game.

It also surpassed the attendance record of an American women’s sporting event, which was listed during the FIFA World Cup Final (USA vs China) at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California, on July 10, 1999, where 90,185 fans were present in the stadium. In a recent interview with Welcome To The Party, hosted by Abby Wambach and Julie Foudy, Huskers' current coach, Busboom Kelly, reflected on the record-breaking match. When asked about the changes she has seen in the team's popularity after her return to the program, she said she couldn't believe the reach they have achieved. Highlighting the record-breaking faceoff, Busboom Kelly said:

“I'm just shocked by the reach that Nebraska has now. And it was a stadium game. I think that got everybody, you know, noticed that was volleyball, Nebraska volleyball, women's sports.” (43:19 onwards)

Coach Busboom Kelly served as an assistant coach in the Nebraska program from 2012 to 2016, after which she led the Louisville Cardinals for eight years.

Nebraska Volleyball's Harper Murray shows confidence in the program to register a record-breaking attendance again

Nebraska Volleyball's Harper Murray also reflected on the program's stadium match in an interview with B1G Volleyball, stating that the team still can list another record-breaking attendance match.

"I feel like the perfect example is a stadium match," Murray said. "I think I have met some people who have asked me where I play. They were like, 'Are you in the team that played in the football stadium?' And I was like, yeah. I feel like that's a perfect example, not many schools could do that, and I am convinced that we can do it again if we really want to do. So I mean it's amazing."

The Nebraska Volleyball team has been undefeated so far this season. They will next face UCLA on November 14, 2025.
