Nebraska high school to rename football field for NFL star

When it comes to high school football in Nebraska, the state knows how to honor its legends. Cam Jurgens is finding that out first-hand after his high school made an exciting announcement.

Jurgens, who played at Beatrice High School in Nebraska, became a Super Bowl champion with the Philadelphia Eagles earlier this year. He was also named to the Pro Bowl in 2024 and is a former Nebraska standout where he earned all-Big Ten status.

During the recent Homestead Days celebration in Beatrice, it was announced that the football field where Jurgens competed will now be called Cam Jurgens Field.

"You never think the field is going to get named after you," Jurgens said (thanks to 1011news.com for the quotes). "I've hurt myself a lot on this field. I've puked all over the place. Now my name is going down too."

The 6-foot-3 Jurgens comes from a town of less than 200 people. He was a three-year starter for the Huskers while also competing on the Nebraska track and field team in the shot put.

After being selected by the Eagles in the second round of the 2022 NFL Draft, Jurgens sat and learned under all-pro center Jason Kelce before replacing him. He has played in 44 games with 27 starts while anchoring an offensive line that dominated in the Super Bowl vs. the Kansas City Chiefs.

While at Beatrice, Jurgens was a multi-sport standout, competing in football, basketball and track and field. On the football team, he played tight end, fullback, linebacker and punter.
