JJ Crawford, the son of NBA on NBC analyst Jamal Crawford, is No. 1 in ESPN's latest basketball rankings for the 2029 recruiting class.
Crawford is one of two top players coming out of high school from Rainier Beach High School in Seattle. Tyran Stokes, who was the top player in the 2026 recruitment, recently committed to the Kansas Jayhawks. The elder Crawford also attended RBHS before attending Michigan and living out a 20-year NBA career.
The 6-foot-5 guard is catching the attention of many scouts for his instincts and basketball IQ, which comes directly from how his father plays the game. Crawford also has an outstanding shooting range. "He naturally controls the pace of a game with an unusual level of poise for his age, capable of creating his own shot or making plays for his age," according to Sleepers Media.
