The New York Knicks are strong contenders to emerge from the wide-open Eastern Conference in the 2025-26 season, following their loss to the Pacers in the Eastern Conference finals.
New York has kept its core intact while adding depth pieces on cost-effective contracts this offseason, including Guerschon Yabusele and Jordan Clarkson. However, the Knicks could bring in another backup guard alongside Clarkson and Miles McBride, especially if they feel Tyler Kolek isn't ready for increased minutes.
Brandon Austin of Pro Football & Sports Network labeled Donte DiVincenzo as a trade candidate for the Minnesota Timberwolves this season, suggesting a reunion with New York could be a viable option.
“DiVincenzo brings experience, a high shooting volume, and solid defense,” he wrote. "However, a crowded backcourt featuring Mike Conley, Anthony Edwards, Rob Dillingham and Terrence Shannon Jr. could eventually reduce his role. DiVincenzo may be the expendable piece with the ideal return if Minnesota seeks frontcourt depth or draft capital.”

Both teams are restricted by apron rules, which would make a potential trade more complicated. However, a reunion with former Villanova teammates Jalen Brunson, Josh Hart and Mikal Bridges offers an intriguing storyline.
The Timberwolves have young pieces they'd likely prioritize over DiVincenzo, and they could benefit from adding another player in the frontcourt such as Mitchell Robinson, who’s entering the final year of his contract.
If DiVincenzo struggles or sees his role diminish in the 2025-26 campaign, it wouldn't be surprising to see him emerge as a midseason trade candidate. The Knicks appear to be in contention for a championship and could consider reuniting with the 28-year-old guard, who previously played for them during the 2023-24 campaign.
