Boston Celtics guard Jrue Holiday was named the 2024-25 NBA Social Justice Champion, earning the Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Trophy for his groundbreaking efforts to promote economic empowerment and social justice.
The announcement, made earlier this morning, honors Holiday’s dedication to uplifting underrepresented communities.
“Holiday will receive the Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Trophy for his efforts to drive economic empowerment through philanthropy and creative capital deployment. $100K to be donated to the Jrue and Lauren Social Impact Fund (JLH fund),” the NBA announced.
The Jrue and Lauren Holiday Social Impact Fund, is Holiday’s main project and it was established in 2020 with his $5 million NBA salary. Since then, it has given out more than $5.3 million in grants and 400 coaching hours to almost 200 Black-led nonprofits and businesses in places like Boston, Milwaukee, and New Orleans. Through enabling Black businesses and assisting historically Black institutions, this initiative combats systematic racism.
In partnership with current teammate Jaylen Brown, Holiday helped launch the Creator Incubator + Accelerator in Boston, offering up to $100,000 in grants and mentorship to locals, with access to MIT and Harvard resources.

He’s also a board member of the National Basketball Social Justice Coalition, where Holiday advocates for policy changes to promote racial justice. The JLH Fund also assisted with people who were affected by the 2025 Los Angeles wildfires, showing a quick response to those in need.
There were other players around the league like Bam Adebayo and CJ McCollum, but Holiday stood out the most. His systemic focused approach aligns with Abdul-Jabbar’s mission of driving equality.
