The Boston Celtics have been among the busiest teams in the NBA to start the offseason. They began moving key pieces of their 2023-24 NBA title team on Monday as they sent Jrue Holiday to the Portland Trail Blazers for Anfernee Simons and two second-round picks.
Their expected fire sale continued on Tuesday as they shipped Kristaps Porzingis to the Atlanta Hawks in a three-team deal -- that also involved the Brooklyn Nets -- receiving Georges Niang and a second-round pick in return. While many predicted that the pair of former All-Stars would be traded as Boston looks to dip under the second apron of the luxury tax, general manager Brad Stevens may not be done dealing.
Shams Charania of ESPN appeared on "The Stephen A. Smith Show", where he reported that teams have been showing significant interest in 2023-24 Eastern Conference Finals and NBA Finals MVP Jaylen Brown.
"The Celtics prefer not to trade Jaylen Brown and Derrick White, but listen, the offers that they're getting right now and the conversations are going to be had -- does it reach the value -- and that's the question," ESPN's Shams Charania stated Tuesday. "So, you're looking at a lot of potential movement around the Celtics."

"There are multiple teams that have significant interest in Jaylen Brown," Charania continued. "The contract is steep, I understand it, but listen, there are teams -- especially in today's NBA, especially in the Eastern Conference and now what we're seeing in the Western Conference, too, it's an arms race in the West. So, even if you're a team that's meddling in the playoffs, you're trying to get there, you're trying to make a swing. And I think what we're going to see now, in both conferences, is a lot of activity."
Brown is owed $236.2 million over the next four seasons. The Celtics appear to be entering somewhat of a retooling season as Jayson Tatum is expected to miss all of 2025-26 with a torn Achilles tendon.
While his running mate has made the Eastern Conference All-Star Team in four of the past five seasons, his contract -- combined with his postseason struggles in 2024-25 -- could lead Boston to split the duo up after eight seasons together. It is unclear what the Celtics would desire in a potential return for Brown as they would likely be selling low.
