When Kevin Durant announced he was signing with the Golden State Warriors in 2016 free agency, the history of the league was to be changed forever.

A team like the Golden State Warriors, who were just coming off a championship win at the time, was adding a top-five player in the league, and would eventually set the best record in regular season history at 73-9.

Durant and teammate Draymond Green may have had their history, but they were not the main reason he didn’t return to the Bay.

According to Logan Murdock of The Ringer, Durant's issues with Head Coach Steve Kerr were far more of a reason than anything with Green.

“Durant’s exit from the Bay Area arguably had more to do with his issues with Steve Kerr than any shouting match with Green,” Murdock said Monday. “Durant repeatedly complained both publicly and privately about Kerr’s offensive principles during his final season with the Warriors, and he continued to do so even after he left for Brooklyn. The two have since reconciled, but league sources identify Kerr as among the reasons Durant opted not to return to Golden State at the trade deadline.”

Kerr is widely respected as a coach and as a winner in general, having been at the helm of the team since 2014 and immediately leading the team to success.

He has four rings under his belt as a head coach and five as a player between the Chicago Bulls and San Antonio Spurs.

Durant is known to be a problem mainly off the court, and now joins the Houston Rockets as of Sunday.

His issues with Kerr come as a surprise, as most of the media believed it was due to his relationship with Draymond.
