NBA executives evaluate Josh Giddey's $30 million asking price

Josh Giddey and the Chicago Bulls remain locked in a contract stalemate, with the 22-year-old reportedly seeking a new deal worth around $30 million annually.

The Bulls have the cap space to sign Giddey to a lucrative contract, but they also hold leverage, as few teams can meet his asking price. The question now is whether Giddey will accept the team’s qualifying offer and play out the final year of his deal, or settle for a long-term pact below his initial demands.

The Athletic recently polled 16 NBA front office personnel to gauge Giddey’s market value. They all agreed they wouldn’t pay him more than $25 million per year.

“Fourteen of the 16 participants proposed an average annual salary between $20 million and $25 million,” they wrote.

Still, the majority of the respondents reportedly said the former No. 6 overall pick deserves a contract lasting at least four years, which is a large financial commitment for any team under the new collective bargaining agreement.

“If you’re offering a four-year contract, you have to be correct,” an executive told The Athletic. “But Giddey, you could offer a four-year deal.”

Giddey began his NBA career with the Oklahoma City Thunder but requested a trade to avoid a reduced role. The Bulls acquired him in June 2024 in exchange for Alex Caruso, betting on his long-term upside.

The 6-foot-8 guard showed improved efficiency from beyond the arc and filled the stat sheet last season, averaging 14.6 points, 8.1 rebounds, 7.2 assists and 1.2 steals across 30.2 minutes per game in 70 regular-season appearances.

While Giddey will likely need to lower his asking price, a fully guaranteed deal of four or more years could help the two sides reach a compromise.
