NBA Draft Mr. Irrelevant: Grizzlies choose Jahmai Mashack with final pick of 2025

The Memphis Grizzlies traded down on Thursday night in the second round of the NBA Draft.

This isn't the reason, but the outcome was they had the final pick of the 2025 draft. It was No. 59 this year, with the Knicks missing out on a second-round pick due to tampering punishment.

The last pick is a party in the NFL, known as Mr. Irrelevant, with a well-tracked history.

The NBA has no such thing, but we're bringing it out here.

And so, the 2025 NBA Draft Mr. Irrelevant was Jahmai Mashack, a guard from Tennessee.

The 6-foot-4 guard was a member of the All-SEC Defensive Team in 2024-25, which fits nicely in Memphis.

"I'm not sure there's a player who played harder than he did," ESPN's Jay Bilas said after the selection.

Best Mr. Irrelevant picks in NBA history

This is a tricky one, because the NBA Draft has been wildly varying lengths.

It was once 208 picks long, back in 1984, when future track legend Carl Lewis was chosen with the final pick by the Chicago Bulls.

In recent history, former high-scoring lefty guard Isaiah Thomas, most known for his time with the Celtics, was the final pick of his draft as a 5-foot-9 guard out of Washington.

The most recent NBA Mr. Irrelevant to still be in the league getting NBA playing time is 2020 last pick Sam Merrill. He went to the Kings in that draft but spent the last season as a sharpshooter off the Cleveland Cavaliers' bench.
