The Washington Nationals added a left-handed pitcher to their bullpen before today's series opener against the New York Yankees.
According to The Athletic's Spencer Nusbaum, former San Diego Padres and Chicago Cubs reliever Tom Cosgrove will join the Nats in Washington.
Cosgrove was acquired from the Houston Astros last week.
He has thrown 70 MLB innings since 2023, posting a 3.86 ERA with 62 strikeouts.
The 30-year-old had a tremendous rookie year with the Padres, posting a 1.75 ERA with just 31 hits allowed in 51.1 innings.
"Cosgrove doesn’t throw especially hard, averaging in the 87-89 mph range with his four-seamer and sinker, but he pitches from a low slot that has occasionally worked on hitters," Darragh McDonald of MLB Trade Rumors wrote.

The Nationals had an open 40-man roster spot after placing right-hander Brad Lord on the 15-day IL.
Washington's 5.04 bullpen ERA is the fourth-worst in the Majors.
Both of their main lefties, Mitchell Parker and Richard Lovelady, are on the IL.
