NASCAR legend Greg Biffle and his family passed away following a fatal plane crash at the Statesville Regional Airport in North Carolina. The NASCAR community took to the social media platform X and mourned the death of the stock car racing Veteran and his family.
The initial reports of a Cessna Citation 550 crashing at the Statesville Airport came in the morning. The reports suggested that the pilot noticed a mechanical issue soon after takeoff and tried landing back at the airport. The plane was in the air for less than 10 minutes.
While attempting the landing, the plane crashed and burst into flames. The initial reports revealed that the plane was registered to NASCAR veteran Greg Biffle. With anonymity around whether the semi-retired stock car racer was on the plane, YouTuber and stock car driver Cleetus McFarland took to social media and revealed that Biffle was indeed on the plane, with his wife Cristina and son Ryder, as they planned to spend the afternoon with the YouTuber. However, McFarland wasn't sure if Greg Biffles’s daughter was on the plane.
Soon after CNN confirmed that 6 people were killed in the plane crash, and media outlets suspected them to be Greg Biffle and family, the pilot, and an unknown sixth person. Congressman Richard Hudson then came out and confirmed the passing of the Biffle family as he tweeted,
“I am devastated by the loss of Greg, Cristina, and their children, and my heart is with all who loved them. They were friends who lived their lives focused on helping others. Greg was a great NASCAR champion who thrilled millions of fans. But he was an extraordinary person as well, and will be remembered for his service to others as much as for his fearlessness on the track.”The NASCAR community took to the social media platform and mourned the loss of Greg Biffle and his family.
