“Secret Lives of Mormon Wives” star Mikayla Matthews has called it quits on her eight-year marriage to her husband, Jace Terry.

“We both agreed to do a separation,” the MomTok member admitted in a confessional during episode 9 of Season 4, which dropped on Thursday.

The couple’s struggles stemming from intimacy issues and Matthew’s past sexual abuse were one of the main storylines this season.

After beginning couples therapy last season, the couple reveals they hadn’t made much progress.

“It’s so incredible that everyone’s getting these opportunities and going out and living their dreams, but my health has held me back from saying yes to a lot of opportunities,” Matthews says in a confessional, referring to her struggles with a mysterious chronic illness while also being postpartum.

“It’s definitely discouraging and frustrating, and it kind of holds me back in other places in my life, like my marriage with Jace.”

Matthews, 25, and Terry, 30, share four children: Beckham, 8, Haven, 6, Tommie, 4, and Lottie, who was born in July 2025.

Viewers watched the couple (seen above in March 2025) try to work through intimacy issues last season, but they both shared that since then, they haven’t made enough progress.
Matthews (seen above at a Tarte event last month) explained that she needs to work on trauma from sexual abuse she experienced as a child and also focus on her health.

Throughout the season, Matthews also realizes she needs to focus on healing from the sexual abuse she experienced as a child — and she won’t be able to do that if they are also trying to work on their sex life.

“I feel like I’m working on so many different things outside of just sex, and I know that obviously he can’t just be like, ‘OK, well we can go without that.’ We both get to a point where we feel really helpless about it,” she explains to her co-star and best friend, Mayci Neeley, in another scene.

Ultimately, both she and Terry conclude she doesn’t “have the motivation” to tackle the issue and decide to separate.

During a heartbreaking scene, where Matthews is packing up her things to move out of their shared home, the couple continues to air out their issues.

“At home, you feel like you can’t focus on your skin and your health because I’m also here,” Terry tells her, seemingly explaining why she’s the one leaving the family home.

“I think it’s hard anytime you bring up the stuff with the sex and the intimacy. I feel it’s hard on me because again, my nervous system is already in fight or flight, and I’m already maxed out. My bucket is full,” she explains to him.

“I don’t think it’s like with the intention of being separated forever,” she continues. “I think we’re obviously still going to see each other every single day. I’m not trying to go even a day away from the kids anyway.”

However, she admits to not knowing when their separation will end “because it could take weeks [or] months to be healed.”

“There’s part of me that is definitely scared to lose him because I feel like our marriage is so good outside of the sexual intimacy part of it, which is ironic because that’s his No. 1 need and that’s my No. 1 wound,” Matthews says during a confessional.
