A Texas grandfather who suffered severe burns after an old barrel he bought at an auction suddenly exploded bolted back into the fire to save his house and grandchildren, harrowing video shows.

Home footage from Carl Motley’s Texoma home captured the moment the barrel, which had leftover oil inside, erupted into a fireball after the grandpa tried to cut it open with a plasma torch just outside the house, KXII reported.

The flames immediately engulf Motley as his two grandchildren and their dog stand just a few feet away, with black smoke surging.

Motley could be seen jumping out of the blaze with his leg still on fire as the flames spread over the entrance of the house.

After slapping away the flames on his leg, the quick-thinking grandfather rushes past the fire into the house, where he speedily emerges with a flame extinguisher to put out the blaze.

His sister, Carin Curry, said Motley’s actions effectively saved the house from damage and kept the children safe.

“He kind of likes to call himself like a Superman,” she told the local outlet. “He’s always willing to help everyone, so he did kind of react like a Superman that day and just take care of it the best that he could.”

“His first question when we reunited at the hospital was if his grand babies were okay,” daughter Carly Motley wrote in a GoFundMe to help pay for her father’s treatment.

Nearly half of the $6,500 needed to help pay Motley’s medical expenses have been raised as of Thursday afternoon.
