For this family, good things — or at least a good vacation — come in threes.
A couple has stirred controversy online after revealing they only took one child with them on holiday, leaving the other at home.
Georgia and Chris Brown, both 30, from southeast London, booked a four-day trip to Morocco with their infant son, Harry. Their elder boy, two-year-old George, was left in the care of his grandmother.
The parents say the trip was a chance to enjoy “one-on-one time” with Harry, an opportunity they felt wouldn’t be possible with a toddler in tow.
“We wanted to have that one-on-one time with Harry,” Georgia told What’s The Jam. “George’s first holiday was all about him, and we wanted that same experience with Harry.”
The couple, who previously took George to Sorrento, Italy, when he was a baby, said it was important to give Harry an equal experience.
Chris, a sales executive, surprised Georgia, a business consultant, with the trip for her birthday. “It was a surprise that George wasn’t coming,” she recalled. “When he gave me the ticket and I saw one child, I thought ‘Where’s the other one?’ But when he explained, I thought it was quite sweet.”
“Dads can struggle to bond at the beginning,” she explained. “He’s the default parent to George because I’m breastfeeding Harry. Chris doesn’t get to spend that much time with Harry because he’s back at work so it gave him that time as well.”
So the couple went to Morocco with their youngest and left their oldest at home with grandma.
However, when Georgia shared a clip of their trip on TikTok, she was met with a flood of criticism. Trolls accused the couple of being “bad parents,” suggesting their decision would emotionally scar their toddler.
Some even accused them of leaving George behind because they couldn’t handle both children.
“It’s crazy,” Georgia said. “I didn’t expect it to get the reaction it did. People were saying ‘that poor boy’ and that he’ll grow up and never speak to me again.”
“People are saying it’ll really impact him and he’ll remember. The boy can’t remember what he had for dinner.”
Despite the backlash, Georgia stood by their decision. “I’m absolutely not a bad parent,” she said. “People don’t know me and are just online bullies.”
Supporters of the couple were quick to defend them.
“There’s nothing wrong with what you’ve done if you’ve left them with loving family members,” one commenter wrote.
Another added, “As a second child, this makes my inner child happy. I always see people thinking about the first child but we seconds do need some alone time with our parents as well.”
Georgia clarified that George was well cared for and had a great time at home, visiting the zoo and making pizza with his cousins. “We FaceTimed him every day. He wasn’t upset — he was excited to tell us what he’d been doing,” she said,
“I’m so glad we did it. It was lovely,” Georgia said. “The baby may not remember, but Chris and I will.”
Despite the controversy, the couple insists their decision was made out of love — and fairness. “It was about making sure Harry had the same special experience George had,” the mom clarified.
