With the MLB trade deadline on the horizon, the San Diego Padres know exactly what they will target. Between the huge holes in left field and at catcher, the Padres' trade deadline targets are clear.
For Zach Pressnell of Fansided.com, the Padres could look to add a very specific outfielder type. Pressnell specified the Padres should "trade for an outfielder (with pop)."
He elaborated on a couple of potential trade targets the Padres could go after with such a prerequisite in mind.
"The San Diego Padres have a clear need right now. It's a left fielder." Pressnell wrote. "And they seemingly have a guy in mind: Red Sox star Jarren Duran. ...They could pursue a deal for another Red Sox outfielder, potentially Wilyer Abreu, if Duran is off the table. A body like Adolis Garcia could make sense, too."
San Diego is looking to add an outfielder, and one of Jarren Duran, Wilyer Abreu, or Adolis Garcia would be the perfect addition. The two Boston Red Sox outfielders aren't as much of sluggers as Garcia is, but they both provide solid upside.
Duran has incredible speed and has a solid .257 batting average with eight home runs and 50 RBIs this season. Abreu is a Gold Glove defender and has a .258 batting average with 18 home runs and 52 RBIs on the season.

Either would be a great pickup, and would fit the outfielder with "pop" that Pressnell wants the Padres to go after. Garcia isn't too different, as he has a .234 batting average with 12 home runs and 54 RBIs.
While not as great a hitter by batting average, his slugging potential is strong enough to make his case over Duran or Abreu. Also, Garcia is a postseason legend, helping the Texas Rangers win the 2023 World Series.
The Padres' need in the outfield is clear, but Pressnell doesn't just want the Padres to add an outfielder; he wants them to bring in a slugger who can bolster the offense significantly.
These three outfielders would all be great pickups; the only issue is that their teams aren't likely to sell. Boston is in a postseason spot, and the Rangers aren't far off from the AL Wild Card.
San Diego could look elsewhere, but their best options are one of these three outfielders. If by the MLB trade deadline, one of these players is on the Padres roster, it'd be a massive success, barring a complete overpay from A.J. Preller.
