MLB writer predicts Cardinals' Nolan Arenado trade talks to heat up

There are a few teams around baseball that would be interested in trading for a new third baseman at the MLB trade deadline. For the St. Louis Cardinals, that could mean they'd have a market for Nolan Arenado.

However, there are questions of whether they decide to move on from the future Hall of Famer or not. But, according to MLB.com writer John Denton, he predicts that trade talks with Arenado will heat up at the trade deadline.

"Arenado used the no-trade clause in his contract to squash a proposed deal to the Astros last December after that franchise dealt away Kyle Tucker." Denton wrote. "Could talks with the Astros -- or even the Dodgers, Yankees, or Red Sox -- heat up again? The prediction here is a resounding yes."

It's a very clear prediction from Denton. He believes that trade talks will heat up surrounding Arenado at the trade deadline. While the Houston Astros, thanks to Isaac Paredes, might not go after Arenado anymore, there are plenty of teams who'd be interested in the ten-time Gold Glove Award winner.

The Detroit Tigers and the New York Yankees are the two most likely trade destinations for Arenado. Both are top contenders in the AL, though the Yankees have struggled lately, falling out of first in the AL East.

But, either team would be a contender, a prerequisite for Arenado to accept a deal. That, of course, is the major holdup. Teams might be interested, but Arenado will have to accept any potential deal.

If he doesn't want to go to Detroit or New York, there won't be many options left for the Cardinals to trade Arenado. Even if talks do heat up, there may not be a suitable landing spot for the 34-year-old Arenado.

He's hitting .264 with a .693 OPS, the lowest mark in his big-league career. He's also dealing with nagging shoulder and finger issues, which could keep him out of games.

Even with the potential holdups, Denton predicts that Arenado trade talks will heat up this summer. With less than two weeks until the MLB trade deadline, St. Louis could be looking at massive changes, especially if the team struggles the rest of July.
