The Arizona Diamondbacks are 32-29, sitting 7.5 games back of the Los Angeles Dodgers in the NL West. While they're not in a bad spot overall, they do need some help.
After the Corbin Burnes news came out, that a setback is going to keep him out until potentially September, the need for starting pitching became clear. But that's not all this team needs.
According to MLB insider Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic, the Diamondbacks are planning to target one specific type of hitter at the deadline.
Diamondbacks' trade plan involves one kind of hitter
"The Diamondbacks expect to pursue a left-handed first baseman/DH type at the deadline, people briefed on their plans say," Rosenthal writes.
While Corbin Carroll, Ketel Marte, and Geraldo Perdomo hit lefty, the Diamondbacks don't have much depth in the form of left-handed hitters.
Pavin Smith and Adrian Del Castillo are two options, but neither is a very promising hitter worth being excited about. Instead, the Diamondbacks should be going after a lefty slugger this season.

They don't need to go after someone as great as Yordan Alvarez of the Houston Astros, as they could instead target someone who is a bit more underrated.
Rosenthal linked the Diamondbacks to five potential options, with Luis Arraez, TJ Rumfield, Troy Johnston, Lars Nootbaar, and Zack McKinstry all fitting the profile of the kind of hitter the Diamondbacks are looking for.
Arizona doesn't need to splurge on a left-handed hitter, but they do plan to address the need this summer. While nothing is set-in-stone, D-Backs fans should keep their eyes on left-handed hitters in the trade market this season.
