The Boston Red Sox have been linked with several free agents this offseason as the AL East franchise is trying to strengthen its roster ahead of next season.
According to Mass Live’s Chris Cotillo, the Red Sox are interested in bringing back veteran relief pitcher Chris Martin for the 2026 season. Martin, who has played for seven teams, including the Red Sox (2023-24), has announced that he intends to pitch next season.
"One Red Sox possibility on the relief market, according to a source, is a reunion with veteran Chris Martin, who plans to pitch in 2026. Martin had previously opened the door to retiring after 2025 but is intent on pitching next year. There's Boston interest."•

One Red Sox possibility on the relief market, according to a source, is a reunion with veteran Chris Martin, who plans to pitch in 2026. Martin had previously opened the door to retiring after 2025 but is intent on pitching next year. There's Boston interest.
Martin signed a one-year deal with the Texas Rangers at the start of the year. The veteran closer pitched to a 2-6 record with a 2.98 ERA in 49 games.
Meanwhile, the Red Sox's AL East rivals, the New York Yankees, have been linked with former pitcher Michael King. The veteran pitcher spent the first five years of his MLB career with the Yankees in a bullpen role.
However, King has transformed into a reliable starter over his two-year stint with the San Diego Padres. The Yankees are reportedly shortlisted along with the Red Sox and the Baltimore Orioles by the veteran ace.
King is coming off an injury-plagued season where he managed just 15 starts due to a nerve issue in his shoulder and a minor knee injury.
Yankees facing new threat from NL West team in Cody Bellinger's pursuit
While the Yankees have been linked with their former pitcher Michael King this offseason, the team is facing stiff competition for All-Star outfielder Cody Bellinger, who spent the 2025 season with the Bronx Bombers.
According to the latest reports, the San Francisco Giants have emerged as a potential suitor for Bellinger. The former NL MVP hit .272/.334/.480 with 29 home runs in 2025 and is looking for a long-term deal in free agency.
The Giants have built a reputation of going big for their preferred targets and could table a considerable offer for the former Yankees star.
