The American League Central has proven to be a head-scratcher of a division this season. All five teams are below .500, with the Detroit Tigers (18-19) and the Cleveland Guardians (18-19) tied for the lead.
The Chicago White Sox (17-19) and Kansas City Royals (17-19) sit a half game behind and could be a surprise contender to make the American League Wild Card if they play their cards right. With all five teams struggling to get things going, the American League Central has not proven to be that chaotic.
The American League Central has proved to be one of the least "chaotic" divisions in Major League Baseball
According to MLB.com's Will Leitch, the American League Central is considered the third-most chaotic division in Major League Baseball, with a score of 5/10.
"The AL Central has the same general shape it usually does: Most of the teams are bunched together (a spread of just 1 1/2 games entering Wednesday), with no one really pulling away. But the two teams everyone thought were primed to take a step forward this year, the Tigers and the Royals, are having serious issues," wrote Leitch. "The loss of Tarik Skubal for the next few months makes the Tigers’ slow start even scarier, and the Royals, until a recent uptick, had received nearly nothing from their supposedly upgraded offense."

The loss of Tigers ace, left-hander Tarik Skubal, could help teams like the White Sox, the Minnesota Twins (16-20 and a game and a half out), and the Royals to compete. However, one team will need to win the division, and with Skubal expected to return later in the season, the trade deadline (Aug. 3) will be interesting for all five teams.
