After almost two years of waiting, Maxwell Jacob Friedman has finally recaptured the AEW World Title. The self-proclaimed generational talent, who often makes headlines with his controversial takes and thoughts, has now seemingly levelled a huge accusation against WWE and its relationship with wrestling media.

This past weekend at Worlds End 2025, the All Elite Wrestling Men's World Championship was on the line in a four-way, with defending champion Samoa Joe taking on three contenders- Swerve Strickland, Adam Page and MJF. The Wolf of Wrestling displayed masterful in-ring awareness throughout the bout and ended up winning the match and the belt, almost two years since he lost the title to Joe at the same pay-per-view in 2023.

Following on the heels of his victory, Friedman appeared in a recent interview for Mostly Sports with Mark Titus and Brandon Walker. The newly crowned AEW World Champion surprisingly addressed the topic of wrestling media, noting how a number of journalists and outlets in the field do not give the Jacksonville-based company due recognition for its recent growth and performance. He also insinuated that some of these journalists could be motivated by wanting to do, or stay, in business with WWE, stating:

“Normally journalists, no matter how many tickets we sell, no matter how many pay-per-view buys we get, no matter how many top acts we have, they’re just not able to say [AEW in 2025 is doing a great job entertaining fans]. It’s almost as if they’re chasing a hug from a certain company. It’s odd. I can’t comprehend it because when WWE does good stuff… I’m the first person to say congratulations and kudos. But for some reason, for some strange f*cking reason, it’s almost as if there’s certain journalists that are in a certain company’s pocket. It’s just odd.” [H/T- WrestlePurists on X]

Friedman's remarks are also significant in light of AEW sweeping up a number of honors in the 2025 Sports Illustrated Wrestling awards.

MJF will be defending his AEW title next month

While MJF may find himself on cloud nine over having recaptured his "Triple B" at Worlds End 2025, he will soon have to defend the strap against one of the Tony Khan-led company's most popular names right now- Bandido, who defeated Ricochet on Dynamite on 34th Street to win this year's iteration of the Dynamite Diamond Ring. The victory earned The Most Wanted luchador a shot at the AEW Men's World Championship this coming month at Dynamite: Maximum Carnage.

It remains to be seen whether Friedman will be able to retain his belt against the ROH World Champion on January 14. 2026.
