We’ve got ourselves an absolute beaut on Wednesday night.
Two of the worst teams in FBS, Missouri State and Middle Tennessee, will meet in the middle of the week, providing punters with an opportunity to deep dive on two programs they’d probably rather leave to the side.
But given that this is just one of two games on the docket, we should see some decent betting activity for this contest, which kicks off at 7:30 p.m. ET and will air on ESPN2.
Missouri State (2-3) is a 2.5-point favorite on the road in charming Murfreesboro.
Missouri State vs. Middle Tennessee odds, prediction
Year 1 for Derek Mason at Middle Tennessee was wretched, and the returns at the halfway point of Year 2 don’t look much better.
Middle Tennessee is 1-4 on the season, with one of their four losses coming to an FCS team (Austin Peay). The Blue Raiders’ lone win came against Nevada, but other than that, they’ve been pretty much uncompetitive against Wisconsin, Kennesaw State, and Marshall.

It’s been so poor for Middle Tennessee State that Bill Connelly’s SP+ power rankings have them as the fourth-worst team in FBS this season, and his numbers would make them an underdog against several FCS squads and essentially a pick’em against a couple of Division II programs.
You’re not going to write home about Missouri State, either, but at least the Bears look competent enough considering they’re in transition mode from FCS to FBS.

Missouri State was blown out by USC and SMU, but they looked like a tough out against Western Kentucky, the best team in Conference-USA through the first half of the campaign.
Sometimes in betting, it’s best to keep things simple, and that’s what we’ll do here by backing a program that seems to be heading in the right direction, against one that is probably already counting the days until the season is done.
The Play: Missouri State -2.5 (-110, FanDuel)
