Minnesota United host Seattle Sounders at the Allianz Field on Saturday in the first round of the MLS playoffs for their third and final clash of the tie. So far, both sides have one win each: Minnesota beat Seattle 3-2 on penalties after playing out a 0-0 draw, before the Rave Greens avenged the loss with an emphatic 4-2 triumph at home.
Seattle had raced to a three-goal lead in the first half through goals from Obed Vargas, Jordan Morris and Danny Musovski, but Minnesota threatened to fight back.
Nectarios Triantis and Robin Lod struck apiece in the added minutes of the opening stanza to reduce the deficit to just one goal. But Vargas restored Seattle's two-goal advantage in the 86th minute by making it 4-2.
With both teams winning once each, the winner of the upcoming tie will progress into the Conference semi-finals, where they will face either San Diego FC or Portland Timbers.
Interestingly, both Seattle and Minnesota made it to the semi-final stage last year: Minnesota ousted Real Salt Lake in the first round of the playoffs last year before crumbling to a 6-2 loss at the hands of LA Galaxy in the Conference semi-finals.
After beating Houston Dynamo on penalties in both their first-round ties, Seattle overcame Los Angeles FC before losing to Galaxy in the finals.
