Darius Taylor ran for 148 yards with a touchdown as Minnesota upset No. 25 Nebraska 24-6 on Friday night. Drake Lindsay added 153 yards passing with another score while the Gophers defense held the Huskers to the lowest amount of points in a game under head coach Matt Rhule. Minnesota's offense was ranked 114th nationally with 112.3 yards per game before Friday.
Nebraska was held scoreless in the second half after trailing 7-6 at halftime. The Gophers (5-2, 3-1 Big Ten) have won six straight against the Cornhuskers (5-2, 2-2), who fell short in their bid to win back-to-back road games in consecutive weeks for the first time since 2006.
Dylan Raiola threw for 177 yards in his first game of the year without a touchdown. Nebraska had major protection issues against the Minnesota defensive front with nine sacks and ten tackles for loss on the night.
An unexpected win for the Gophers, who came into the game as 5.5-point underdogs at home. This was the seventh win over a ranked opponent for PJ Fleck, who came into the season as the Big Ten's third-longest tenured coach.
With Penn State firing James Franklin, he moved up to second on the list behind Iowa's Kirk Ferentz. Fleck improved to 7-1 against Nebraska, which hasn't won in Minneapolis since 2015.
