After defeating the Chicago Cubs in five games on Saturday night in the National League Division Series, the Milwaukee Brewers are set to open the National League Championship Series tonight against the Los Angeles Dodgers.
While the Dodgers took care of the Philadelphia Phillies in four games, earning extra rest before the series, the Brewers had just one day off after using a bullpen-heavy approach in Game 5. That short turnaround made Milwaukee’s Game 1 starter uncertain until Monday afternoon.
Manager Pat Murphy announced that left-hander Aaron Ashby will take the mound to begin the series, a move that likely signals another bullpen game for the Brewers. Ashby, who pitched in four of the five games against the Cubs, is not expected to go deep into the outing.
During the regular season, Ashby went 5-2 with a 2.16 ERA. However, through four postseason appearances, his ERA sits at 5.79. Despite those numbers, Murphy has consistently praised Ashby’s versatility and resilience, key traits in a pitching staff that has relied heavily on depth.
The Brewers are expected to have several starting pitchers available in relief, including Jacob Misiorowski, Quinn Priester, Chad Patrick, Tobias Myers and veteran left-hander José Quintana. Freddy Peralta however is unlikely to be used as a reliever.
On the opposing side, Los Angeles will send out Blake Snell, who holds a 1.38 ERA this postseason over 13 innings in two starts.
With home-field advantage and momentum from their dramatic Division Series win, the Brewers will look to set the tone early as they continue their postseason run tonight in Milwaukee.
