Mike Kafka had zero issue with Cam Skattebo’s WWE appearance: ‘It was a cool thing’

Yes, interim head coach Mike Kafka knew injured rookie running back Cam Skattebo would be attending the “Monday Night Raw’’ WWE card at the Garden. And no, Kafka did not have a problem with Skattebo — coming off surgery to repair a dislocated right ankle — mixing it up with wrestler Dominik Mysterio — during the festivities.

“It was a rookie event,’’ Kafka said. “We have some team events that our support staff put together for the rookies to kind of get out. So, I thought it was a cool thing. I know it was like a staged little brawl there. It was great to see Skatt on the pregame, on the sideline. His juice, his energy, you can feel it. I can feel it through the TV and through my phone when I was watching the clips.

“So, it’s a cool event for those guys to kind of get out and be out in the community.’’

Skattebo received criticism on social media from those who felt he was putting his surgically repaired ankle in harm’s way by going to this event and jostling with a wrestler — even though Skattebo was always standing behind a gate during the orchestrated confrontation.

“Yeah, I trust Skatt, and I trust our medical department, our medical staff to take great care of him,’’ Kafka said.

Jameis Winston will be the backup quarterback Sunday, with Jaxson Dart expected to be cleared from concussion protocol in time to play against the Lions. … It was not a good sign that CB Paulson Adebo was not able to practice. Abebo missed four games with a knee injury and then was set to return last week, but he shut himself down when he felt discomfort during his warmup before Sunday’s game against the Packers.

S Tyler Nubin (neck), DL Chauncey Golston neck) and Rakeem Nunez-Roches (toe/elbow) all missed last week’s game and returned to practice on a limited basis.

The three-week window for RB Eric Gray was officially opened. Gray has not played this season because of a knee injury. … OLB Tomon Fox was re-signed to the practice squad.

Kafka, when asked if he had spoken with former Giants head coach Brian Daboll, said they had “reached out to each other.’’

“Just out of respect for Dabes, I’ll keep it private, the conversations private,’’ Kafka said.
