Michigan Tech is off to a strong start to the season, sitting at 4-1 and ranked 19th in Division II, but a different kind of test awaits Saturday.
The Huskies welcome No. 6 Grand Valley State to Houghton, and to say the Lakers are on a roll would be an understatement. Grand Valley has responded to its only close game this season, a 20-10 win at Ashland three weeks ago, by mauling Judson and Wayne State by a combined score of 165-3.
After those blowouts, the Lakers are now averaging 55.8 points and 525.2 yards per game behind quarterback Andrew Schuster, who has completed 73.9 percent of his passes for 1,237 yards and 18 touchdowns with one interception.
Considering Tech has allowed 30 points per game against lesser opposition, finding a way to slow down Grand Valley's attack will be the primary concern, but the Huskies can put up some points. Their unique two-QB setup has seen Alex Bueno take over as the primary passer while Elliott Larner is more of a threat on the ground, with three rushing TDs last week.
Can the Huskies catch the Lakers looking ahead to their biggest game of the year against arch-rival Ferris State next week, or will Grand Valley take care of business to set up another epic Anchor-Bone Classic?
