Michigan has 4 transfer targets to replace center Aday Mara after national championship

There's no time for Michigan to bask in its national title.

While the Wolverines were still celebrating as Monday night turned into Tuesday, the transfer portal opened. And they've got recruiting to get to work on.

That's particularly true at the center position, where Aday Mara is expected to leave.

Mara was so impactful on the run to the title, and if Michigan does indeed need to replace them, it'll loom as a vital decision for coach Dusty May and his staff.

"May has said in recent weeks the biggest thing he looks for in a starting center is their passing ability, if that gives you any clues as to who he may target," writes Maize N Brew's Jacob Singer. "After success stories of Danny Wolf, Vlad Goldin and Mara, it should be an easy pitch for Michigan to get a high-quality center."

In that article, Singer also listed four players who could be logical transfer center targets for Michigan to man the center position:

  • Flory Bidunga (Kansas)
  • Oswin Erhunmwunse (Providence)
  • Magoon Gwath (San Diego State)
  • Aiden Sherrell (Alabama)

Bidunga might be the most intriguing simply because he has had high-level success for the Jayhawks.

Gwath may have untapped upside as a 40% shooter from 3-point range who has averaged 2.1 blocks per game in his college career.

Erhunmwunse and Sherrell would also bring quality talent to the defending national champions, too.

There'll be transfer recruiting battles for that quartet, to be sure, but it'd make sense for Michigan to get itself involved in the picture.
