Kyrie Irving is expected to become one of the most important pieces of the Dallas Mavericks this coming season. The veteran superstar missed the entirety of the 2025-26 season for the franchise, which was a big absence for the Mavericks.

Now, he is aiming to come back for the team next season, with the team already having put their trust in him. One NBA player believes that Irving has already recovered at an impressive rate.

Michael Porter Jr. talks about Kyrie Irving’s post-ACL recovery

Irving sustained a torn left anterior cruciate ligament on March 3, 2025, during the first quarter of a Mavericks game against the Sacramento Kings. The injury occurred when he stepped on Jonas Valančiūnas’ foot while driving to the basket, causing his knee to hyperextend. He later underwent reconstruction surgery on March 26, 2025.

The injury ended his 2024-25 season, and he then missed the entire 2025-26 campaign. Ahead of the next season, he has already advanced in his recovery in the offseason.

Brooklyn Nets player Michael Porter Jr. recently participated in a practice session with Irving. Afterwards, he talked about how the star was already recovering from his injury and playing at a high level during the latest episode of Curious Mike.

He said, “I was hooping with him yesterday and this is off of his ACL. That dude was so cold, bro. I couldn't believe how he was moving out there. And he was getting to the lane, there's all footers in there and he somehow was with the left. Bro, it was nutty. It was crazy.”

During a Twitch live stream back in May 2026, Irving confirmed he is close to recovering fully. He said, “I am definitely close to being over at 100 percent in terms of my ACL recovery. It’s been a while now. It’s been a year and some change. I’m so grateful I’ve had some time to heal and experiment with my body on the court and off the court, in the weight room.”

Earlier, one prominent person also weighed in on the player’s potential return.

Shams Charania gives positive update on Kyrie Irving’s return

Earlier, ESPN’s Shams Charania gave a positive update about Irving’s return for the next season. During an appearance on “The Stephen A. Smith Show”, he said, “My understanding is Kyrie Irving's rehab has gone amazing. There was a sense during last season that, you know, if the Mavericks were playing at a very competitive level, like Kyrie Irving could have potentially come back in December or January.”

He added, “But given the way the season was going, and it obviously didn't make sense for the Mavericks either to rush Kyrie Irving back onto the floor.” It is now increasingly possible that Irving will return for the Mavericks right from the start of the next season.

Kyrie Irving will now work towards his return to the court for the Mavericks with the team expecting his best performance.
