There have been many breakout players this season, but only a few can match up to Michael Porter Jr. He has been superb for the Brooklyn Nets this season, as he is playing the first option role for the first time since his pre-NBA days.
He has been in the NBA for a long time, but he has mostly played as a third option for the Denver Nuggets. Porter was never first at the totem pole because he played with Nikola Jokic and Jamal Murray.
Porter continues to prove he's a top-tier talent
Before he joined the NBA, Porter was one of the most popular names in amateur basketball. He was the top prospect coming out of high school, but his back injury significantly lowered his stock in the NBA Draft.
This led to the Nuggets capitalizing and selecting him with the 14th overall pick. It was one of the best decisions they made because he became the team's resident sharpshooter. It was a worthy gamble, as he was always efficient with his offense.

After six seasons with the Nuggets, the front office decided that it was time to part ways. This led to him moving to the Nets, which has been a successful stint as an individual.
The Nets are not contenders by any means, but Porter is doing well with his performances, scoring 30+ points over 10 times this season.
Ahead of their game against the Los Angeles Clippers on Sunday, he had 11 30+ point games, which was more than what he accrued in his last three seasons with the Nuggets.
Now, Porter is one of the most coveted names in the NBA trade market. He is one of the best sharpshooters, and he has proven to be a reliable number one option when given the green light.
Of course, he will likely play a similar role to his Nuggets stint if he plays for another contender. However, more people respect him more because they know he is capable of doing more.
