Michael Jordan vs. LeBron James GOAT debate gets key update with Pope Leo XIV announcement

4 hours ago 1

While it's not confirmed, it's possible that for the first time, a pope has an opinion on the NBA's greatest of all time debate.

Michael Jordan or LeBron James? What say you, Pope Leo XIV?

Leo XIV was previously known as Cardinal Robert Prevost. He's a Chicago native, the first pope to come from the United States.

He spent much of the 1980s in Chicago, when MJ was on the come-up and getting tons of buckets.

Leo XIV's '90s were spent mostly in Peru, so he missed the NBA championships.

But if he's got a take in the matter, it's gotta be Jordan.

After initial reports suggested the pope was a Cubs fan, his brother confirmed instead that he's a White Sox fan.

There haven't been any NBA reports on the pope, but it'd be surprising if he wasn't a Bulls fan.

And if you're a Bulls fan, you're a Jordan fan. That's just how it works.

For as great as LeBron is, he doesn't have a pope from Ohio, Miami or Los Angeles.

And while Jordan is originally from North Carolina, he's a Chicago legend, just like Pope Leo XIV.
