Michael Jordan's 'NBA on NBC' appearance disappointing for fans

NBC restarted its NBA coverage this season after agreeing to an 11-year media rights deal with the NBA in 2024.

One of the network's biggest moves was to sign Michael Jordan as a "special contributor." Jordan is synonymous with NBC, as all six of his NBA Championships with the Chicago Bulls were broadcasted by the network.

NBC taped a long interview with Jordan and Mike Tirico, which has been shown before games this season. Tirico, who appeared on SI Media with Jimmy Traiana, said there are not plans for any other Jordan content right now.

"Nothing's scheduled as of now that I know of, but it is a possibility," Tirico said. "I hope there's something else after it. Michael was awesome."

Jordan has largely stayed out of the public eye since selling his majority stake of the Charlotte Hornets in Aug. 2023 for around $3 billion. He is still a minority owner of the Hornets and is co-owner of 23XI Racing.

Tirico is aware that the lack of new Jordan content in NBC's coverage could be disappointing for fans.

"All you want to do is make the final answer before you know everything," he said. "I love that Michael trusted enough to sit and do something that he hasn't done in a long, long, long time."

Tirico said Jordan is still passionate about the game and wanted to share his perspective on where the league is headed.

"Michael really wanted to talk about where he sees the game right now, and we haven't heard a lot of that," he said. "My takeaway was how much he cares about the games still. He loves the game."

It remains to be seen if Jordan and NBC team up for more content this season. Until then, fans will have to settle for his previous interview with Tirico.
