Oscar 2026 Nominations: Ariana Grande, Paul Mescal and More Snubs & Surprises

Nominations have dropped across the pond.

In the wake of the Academy Award nominations, the nominees for the BAFTAs—the British Academy Film Awards, Britain’s most prestigious award show—dropped on Jan. 27, bringing with them a new slew of hopefuls.

Much like the Oscar nominations, One Battle After Another and Sinners drew the highest number of nods, though this time the Paul Thomas Anderson film pulled just ahead of Ryan Coogler’s vampire project with 14 nods to 13.

Sinners’ nominations, nonetheless, set a new record at the BAFTAs, marking the highest number of nods for a Black director in the show’s history. Stars Michael B. Jordan and Wunmi Mosaku also both earned acting nominations, while the film is among those nominated for Best Film.

Joining Sinners and OBAA in the category are Hamnet, Marty Supreme and Sentimental Value. As for the actors nominated, Jessie Buckley, Rose Byrne, Chase Infiniti, Timothée Chalamet, Leonardo DiCaprio, Kate Hudson, Emma Stone, Ethan Hawke and Renate Rensieve all earned nods for their starring roles.

But while many of the BAFTA nominations coincide with those of the Academy Awards, there were a few departures. Among them, were lead actor nominations for Jesse Plemons in Bugonia and Robert Aramayo for the British film I Swear

And while Paul Mescal’s work in Hamnet went unrecognized in the Oscar nominations, he did earn a nod for Supporting Actor at the BAFTAs. Plus, the Chloe Zhao film now marks the highest number of BAFTA nominations earned for a female director, with Chloe the only woman nominated in the directing category.

Warner Bros. Prictures

Other nods for films otherwise unsung by the Academy include two nominations for Wicked: For Good (for Costume Design and Make Up & Hair) and a nomination for Outstanding British Film for Die My Love, starring Jennifer Lawrence and Robert Pattinson

In addition to I Swear, other films from the U.K. that earned BAFTA love were Pillion and The Ballad Of Wallis Island, the latter of which earned star Carey Mulligan a Supporting Actress nomination.

But for the full list of projects, actors and filmmakers who earned 2026 BAFTA nominations, read on.
