The Dallas Cowboys are dealing with a defense that has fallen apart in 2025. Matt Eberflus took over as defensive coordinator this season, inheriting a unit missing its best player from recent years.
He runs a Cowboys defense without Micah Parsons, who left Dallas in a blockbuster trade in August. The All-Pro edge rusher joined the Green Bay Packers after a messy contract situation.
NFL reporter Clarence Hill Jr. shared Eberflus thoughts on X. The defensive coordinator opened up about what changed after Parsons' departure.

Trevon Diggs joins Micah Parsons in Wisconsin after Cowboys release
NFL: Green Bay Packers at Denver Broncos - Source: ImagnThe Cowboys cut Trevon Diggs on Tuesday following a Christmas dispute with Dallas coach Brian Schottenheimer. Green Bay claimed the cornerback off waivers, reuniting him with Micah Parsons.
The edge rusher tweeted "We're back" after the Diggs news was reported. They played together during Dallas' run of three straight 12-win seasons from 2021 to 2023, and both made first-team All-Pro in 2021.
Dallas has fallen to pieces defensively this year. The Cowboys give up 376.8 yards per game, ranking 28th in the league. They also allow 253.6 passing yards per matchup, which is the worst in the NFL. Their 29.8 points allowed per game ranks 31st.
The last four games have been brutal, as opponents scored on 27 of their 36 possessions.
Cowboys owner Jerry Jones admitted after the Christmas win over Washington that he wasn't satisfied with the team's performance.
"No, not at all," Jones said to reporters on Friday. "We have a lot of work to do over there. But we can do it."Dallas traded Parsons to Green Bay on Aug. 28, and the Packers gave him a four-year deal worth $188 million. He's out with an ACL injury but should return next season to play alongside Diggs.
