The MAC is always chaotic, but things have been turned up a few notches this season. Western Michigan tops the standings with a 6-1 record, but there are five two-loss teams right behind the Broncos: Ohio (5-2), Central Michigan (4-2), Toledo (4-2), Buffalo (4-2), and Miami (4-2).
Three of the five two-loss programs are in action on Wednesday evening. Central Michigan takes on Kent State, while Miami (Ohio) travels to Buffalo for an elimination game.
The RedHawks are 2.5-point favorites in Western New York.
Miami vs. Buffalo odds, prediction
It’s hard not to love the MAC because of matchups like this. Both Miami and Buffalo enter this matchup at 5-5 with more problems than solutions.
The RedHawks have lost two in a row, and their starting quarterback, Dequan Finn, will sit out so that he can focus on trying to crack the NFL. Finn’s seven-year college career will be remembered fondly.
Things aren’t much better for Buffalo, which has lost two of its last three, and barely got by UMass a few weeks back. The Bulls are just 2-6 against the spread (ATS) in their last eight contests.

Miami’s offense was already struggling with Finn under center, but things should get even more tepid with their veteran quarterback on the sidelines. The RedHawks will need to lean on the running game more heavily than they normally do, but that plays right into Buffalo’s strength.

The Bulls rank 28th in the country in yards allowed per carry and 18th in yards per play, making this one of the stronger defenses in the Group of 5. Buffalo’s just as solid against the pass, boasting the ninth-best sack rate in the country and ranking 44th in yards per pass.
Miami’s defense is also a strong unit, and it should have no issue slowing down Buffalo’s moribund attack. The RedHawks rank 32nd in yards per play allowed, and grade out as the 57th-best defense in the country, per SP+.
The Over/Under is quite low, but all signs are pointing to this being a throwback battle with points at a premium.
The Play: Under 39.5 (-110, bet365)
