There are a handful of College Football rivalries that fans get to see each year, such as the Iron Bowl between Alabama and Auburn and the Red River Rivalry between Oklahoma and Texas. In addition to those yearly contests, there are also ones that aren’t as common but both fan bases look towards it whenever it comes up on the schedule. With Week 1 schedules starting to be released, the marquee matchup in the ACC just received its time slot.
Given there is an entire documentary made about the rivalry between the Notre Dame Fighting Irish and Miami Hurricanes, all eyes will be on the National Champion runner-ups when they travel down to Hard Rock Stadium to face the Canes. The last time these two shared the field, it was a blowout victory for Miami by a score of 41-8 in 2017. A lot has changed since then, as both teams will be entering next season with drastically different rosters.
In terms of the time for the contest, the ACC announced the game is set for the primetime ABC slot of 7:30 PM EST on Sunday, August 31st. While Miami currently has the latest win in the matchup between the schools, Notre Dame won the last four prior.
For the Irish, while they’ll still have Marcus Freeman at the helm they’ll be spending this offseason looking for their next defensive coordinator after Al Golden accepted the same role with the Cincinnati Bengals. Additionally, with Riley Leonard now out of eligibility they will also be with a new starter at quarterback.
As for Miami, they appear to have that answer at quarterback with Georgia transfer Carson Beck, who will look to bump his draft stock like projected first-overall pick Cam Ward did this past season. Factor in a new defensive coordinator starting next season, the Hurricanes will look to start their 2025 season off with a signature win.
