Five-time champions Mumbai Indians (MI) purchased five players at the IPL 2026 auction in Abu Dhabi on Tuesday, December 16. MI were extremely lucky as they purchased seasoned South African keeper-batter Quinton de Kock for his base price of ₹1crore. De Kock recently came out of ODI retirement and has been in impressive form in white-ball cricket.
The Mumbai franchise also purchased four uncapped Indian players for their base price of ₹30 lakh - Atharva Ankolekar, Mohammad Izhar, Danish Malewar and Mayank Rawat. Ankolekar is a left-arm spinner and left-handed batter. He has 19 wickets in 25 T20s and 135 runs at a strike rate of 156.97.
Izhar is a 21-year-old left-arm pacer from Bihar. He has claimed nine wickets in five T20s at an economy rate of 7.11. As for Malewar, the 22-year-old Vidarbha top-order batter has the experience of 13 first-class games in which he has scored 1,151 runs at an average of 52.31, with three hundreds and eight half-centuries. Rawat is an off spinner and lower order batter from Delhi.
MI went into the IPL 2026 auction with a purse of just ₹2.75 crore and only five slots to fill (one of them overseas). They retained 20 players ahead of the auction, retaining the core of their squad from the 2025 season. Mumbai reached the playoffs last season, going down to Punjab Kings (PBKS) in Qualifier 2.
