Learner Tien will face lucky loser Vitaliy Sachko in the semifinals of the Moselle Open 2025.

Tien beat Ugo Blachet and Moez Echargui in straight sets to reach the quarterfinals, where former Wimbledon runner-up Matteo Berrettini awaited him. The two were on even terms for most of the first set, until the Italian pulled away in the end with a three-game run to take the set.

Tien was quick to get back on track, breaking Berrettini's serve twice in the second set to claim it. He continued to dictate the play in the third set, jumping to a 4-1 lead. He wrapped up the match soon after that to score a 5-7, 6-2, 6-3 comeback win.

Sachko initially lost in the qualifying rounds but found a place in the main draw as a lucky loser. He dispatched Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard in straight sets in the first round, and upset third seed Alexander Bublik in three sets to make the last eight. He was up against Clement Tabur in the quarterfinals, who previously beat him in the qualifying rounds.

Sachko captured the opening set, just like he did in their qualifying showdown. Tabur struck back to take the second set, continuing the script from their previous meeting. However, the Ukrainian turned the tables on his opponent this time, edging past him in the decider for a 6-4, 3-6, 6-4 win.

Tien's comeback win over Berrettini improved his record for the season to 30-23. He is one win away from reaching his second final of the season, following his previous runner-up finish to Jannik Sinner at the China Open.

Sachko's dream run in Athens has been quite impressive. He avenged his loss to Tabur from the qualifying rounds to reach his maiden semifinal on the ATP Tour. He also became the first man from his country to reach the last four of an ATP tournament since 2017.

Given the huge discrepancy in their results at the ATP level, Tien will be the favorite to win this match. Sachko had just one win at the main draw level on the ATP Tour in his career prior to this week. He has punched way above his weight throughout the week, though the American's defensive brand of tennis could prove to be too much for him to handle.
