The New York Mets have picked up a World Series champion for their roster.
On Sunday, the Mets announced they had claimed catcher Ben Rortvedt off waivers from the Los Angeles Dodgers, for whom he won a ring in 2025.
Rortvedt had been designated for assignment by the Dodgers, which is what allowed the Mets to claim him.
He actually was already DFA'd earlier this offseason by L.A., claimed by the Cincinnati Reds, but then followed the same path back to the Dodgers before this latest move.

The 28-year old has played in 227 MLB games between the Twins, Yankees, Rays and Dodgers.
He's a career .190 hitter in the majors, but his defense is so strong behind the plate that he's still been an above replacement level player.
Rortvedt began the 2025 season with the Rays, then was part of the three-team trade before the deadline that brought Zack Littell to Cincinnati while the catcher went to L.A.
He actually started the first four games of the playoffs with Will Smith injured, and he hit .429 in that small sample size.
Rortvedt was on the roster in both the NLCS and World Series but didn't play.

The Mets have Francisco Alvarez as their starting catcher, and on paper, Luis Torrens is the backup.
It'll be interesting to see if Rortvedt can factor in, or at the very least go down to Triple-A Syracuse and be the organization's third-string catcher.
It never hurts to bring in a guy with a ring, that's for sure. That's where the Mets want to get, and Rortvedt has seen up close what it takes.
