Mets predicted to do 'fine' on trade return for Freddy Peralta by MLB execs, scouts

The New York Mets are looking very likely to be trade deadline sellers in less than a month, on August 3. As sellers, there are not a lot of players who could fetch strong returns for the Mets.

But Freddy Peralta, the ace whom the Mets traded for with the Milwaukee Brewers this past offseason, is the one player who could bring back a huge return. But, with a 4.68 ERA this season, it's fair to wonder if he can fetch such a return.

However, Will Sammon of The Athletic is reporting that multiple scouts and MLB executives predict that the Mets will do "fine" on a return for Peralta this summer, giving the Mets and their fans a sigh of relief.

Mets should do 'fine' on trade return for Freddy Peralta

"Multiple scouts and executives who spoke on the condition of anonymity because they weren't authorized to speak freely on the topic said the Mets should end up doing fine on a return for Peralta," Sammon reports.

This is a huge sigh of relief for the Mets, as Peralta's struggles this season easily could've diminished his trade value and made him a lot less desirable.

However, it appears teams around baseball will have plenty of interest in Peralta this summer, and the Mets should be able to land a decent return.

It, of course, won't compare to the value they gave up over the offseason to land Peralta. Jett Williams and Brandon Sproat were a strong package, and the Mets won't receive close to that return mid-season.

But, there is still a chance the Mets get back a top-100 prospect, or at least a good prospect or two in exchange for Peralta, who's a cheap rental starter who has ace-level upside.

As Sammon notes, "They should do OK." It's not going to make up for the package they spent to add him, but it also shouldn't be so little in return that the Mets are completely unsatisfied with a return.

Peralta is increasingly likely to be traded as the deadline nears, and the Mets fail to make up ground in the NL Wild Card or NL East races.

If he's dealt, the Mets are believed by MLB executives and scouts to be able to land a "fine" return package, which is at least one thing to take solace in this season.
