The New York Mets have made a lot of roster moves leading up to the 2026 MLB season, and while there's been plenty of big veterans added to the roster, like Luis Robert Jr. and Bo Bichette, a younger player has been one of the more interesting storylines.

Carson Benge, the rookie outfielder who's yet to make his MLB debut, has been fighting for a roster spot on the Mets this spring. He's had a good spring and got some good news on his MLB roster spot a few days before Opening Day.

According to Mike Puma of The New York Post, the Mets have officially selected Benge to join the Major League roster for Opening Day this season.

"NEWS: Carson Benge has been selected to the Mets' Opening Day roster," Puma reported Monday afternoon.

Benge has been a good right fielder for the Mets this spring, as in 41 at-bats, he's had a .366 batting average with an .874 OPS. While he has not hit a home run, his ability to get one base is a welcome skill for the Mets' lineup.

Last year in the minor leagues, he ascended from High-A to Double-A, and finally Triple-A for 24 games. Overall, he hit .281 with an .857 OPS.

There's a reason Benge had a good chance to make the Opening Day roster, and this spring he proved that last year's minor league season wasn't a fluke. He's now the starting right fielder for the Mets.

The new-look outfield for the Mets after this Benge news, and the offseason's Robert Jr. signing, along with Juan Soto, has a ton of potential.

He's still only 23 years old and is still developing. But, even now, he's still looking like one of the better young outfielders in the game after his impressive spring.

Benge is on the Major League roster and very likely the Opening Day right field starter for the Mets.
