Mets now know how much Freddy Peralta is looking to get in his next contract

Former deals are usually a good indication of what guys are going to get paid in Major League Baseball.

One player who has to feel rather confident about getting paid this offseason is Freddy Peralta. Unless the new CBA really has an impact on guys like Peralta getting his money, there's not much of a reason why he won't be in a position to get a massive payday.

While the New York Mets have been one of the most disappointing teams in Major League Baseball, this season shouldn't have too much of an impact on how they feel about Peralta in the future.

Regardless, it doesn't mean the Mets won't trade him right now, and that's something New York will have to consider. If the Mets are serious about keeping him around, there wouldn't be a reason to trade him at the deadline.

If the Mets don't want to give him the money he's seeking in the offseason, there'd be no reason to keep him around.

New York now knows his potential price tag, too, as it was recently reported that he's seeking a deal similar to the one New York Yankees starter Max Fried received: eight years and $218 million.

“If a team acquires New York Mets ace Freddy Peralta at the trade deadline and wants to keep him, they better be ready to pay up. Peralta will be seeking a free agent contract similar to Max Fried’s eight-year, $218 million deal, according to those familiar with Peralta’s expectations,” Bob Nightengale wrote.

Fried and Peralta are different pitchers, obviously, though getting a similar deal to the Yankees left-hander would make sense.

The Mets have the money to give him that, but I can understand why they'd be skeptical about doing so given their current position.
