Mets' Nolan McLean joins Matt Harvey in rare MLB history

Nolan McLean has had one of the most dominant starts to a pitching career in MLB history.

As far as the New York Mets' historical implications go, in some ways he's in exclusive company with just Matt Harvey.

McLean has thrown 28 games at the MLB level, and he has a sub-3.00 ERA, more than 190 strikeouts and fewer than 200 baserunners allowed.

Harvey did that, too. In fact, they're two of just five guys ever to do so, according to Just Baseball.

It may seem a bit odd that no one before Strasburg ever did this, but the game has changed considerably.

Since the counting number is games, and not innings, this era of pitchers striking out more batters but not going as deep into games is what helps allow for the K totals to still be high while the baserunners amount isn't as high.

Regardless of what you think of the criteria, though, it's pretty astounding to see McLean's name in this group.

He truly is one of the rising stars of the sport, and while this season hasn't gone well for the Mets, at least they know McLean is absolutely the real deal going forward.
