Mets manager admits he's 'sick' after Oswaldo Cabrera injury

The biggest concern within the New York Yankees organization is the status of infielder Oswald Cabrera. He sustained a scary ankle injury on Monday night against the Seattle Mariners and proceeded to be taken to the hospital.

It was a tough scene in the top of the ninth inning in Seattle after Cabrera writhed in pain at home plate.

On Tuesday, the Yankees placed Cabrera on the 10-day IL with a left ankle fracture, which shows that the injury is a big one for one of the most well-liked guys in the game.

The fallout from the Cabrera injury has been big, with players such as Aaron Judge and Trent Grisham speaking highly of him, as well as manager Aaron Boone.

“Everybody in here feels terrible because you know how much he works, how hard he works, how much he loves and cares for everybody in this room,” Judge said.

Now, New York Mets manager Carlos Mendoza, who has spent time with Cabrera, admitted he was "sick" after seeing the injury.

"It made me sick to my stomach, to be honest," Mendoza said via Erik Boland of Newsday

Before Mendoza was hired as the Mets manager, he served as the bench coach for the Yankees, so he has spent a lot of time coaching Cabrera.

Boland also revealed that Mendoza first met Cabrera in 2013 when he was the Yankees ML field coordinator.

Cabrera made his MLB debut with the Yankees in 2022 with Mendoza as the bench coach, so these two go way back.
