The New York Mets have made a ton of roster moves this offseason, with the new-look roster being very different from the last few years.
While the starting rotation didn't change in a major way, the Mets did make one big splash, trading for Freddy Peralta from the Milwaukee Brewers.
And now, with a month to go until MLB Opening Day, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com shared that the Mets have announced their Opening Day starter, going with the recently acquired Peralta to begin the season for the Mets.
Mets make Opening Day starter announcement with Freddy Peralta
"News: Freddy Peralta will be the Mets' Opening Day starter," DiComo revealed Friday morning.
The Mets are going to Peralta as the season-opener this year. Nolan McLean, their top prospect and a superstar rookie who flashed last season, could've been the starter on Opening Day as well.
But, with the veteran Peralta in New York, the Mets are going with the experienced ace instead of the young righty to begin the year.

David Peterson, Clay Holmes, Sean Manaea, and Kodai Senga were all options, but with McLean and Peralta, none of those pitchers had a chance to be the Mets Opening Day starter.
Peralta is coming off a great year for the Brewers. He posted a 2.70 ERA in 33 starts, recording an MLB-best 17 wins and posting a career-high 5.5 bWAR. He also had 204 strikeouts and a career-high 154 ERA+.
The Mets are going with the veteran Peralta over the second-year righty McLean as the starter on Opening Day for the 2026 season.
