The New York Mets have been one of the biggest disappointments in all of Major League Baseball this season, and a huge reason why is the starting rotation.
Not only is Nolan McLean not pitching as well as he did during the 2025 season, but Freddy Peralta has been disappointing, David Peterson is struggling, and Kodai Senga might be the worst starter in the Majors this year.
After another brutal outing, Carlos Mendoza told reporters, including Will Sammon of The Athletic, that the team has made a roster decision with Senga, sending him from the rotation to the bullpen.
Mets move Kodai Senga to bullpen amid a 10.08 ERA
"The Mets are moving Kodai Senga to the bullpen, Carlos Mendoza said. In seven starts this season, Senga has a 10.08 ERA," Sammon reports.
This decision from the Mets is not a massive surprise, as Senga has been terrible for the team this season in his seven starts.
The 34-44 Mets are in great danger of further collapse and falling out of postseason contention entirely. Even with Francisco Lindor set to come back, the Mets might not have enough time to not be sellers at this year's trade deadline.
Senga's struggles are a big issue for the team, as he's 0-6 with a 10.08 ERA in seven starts following a brutal 3.2-inning, seven earned-run outing against the Chicago Cubs.
His first start was a quality start, as he went 6.0 innings, allowing just two earned runs with nine strikeouts. But he's since been one of the worst pitchers in baseball.
It's an unfortunate decision for the Mets, but it's one that they had to make. Senga just wasn't good enough to stick in the rotation.
Even though the starting rotation is going through some major struggles and could use all of the help they can get, Senga's struggles were just too much. He's headed to the bullpen and will hope to figure things out as a long reliever this season.
