The New York Mets' top target this offseason clearly is New York Yankees superstar Juan Soto.
New York is going to try its best to bring the superstar to town and there's certainly a chance that it will end up winning the sweepstakes. The Mets have more money than anyone else to spend and could use Soto.
Landing a superstar like him would immediately make the Mets contenders in the National League. But, there is a lot of competition for Soto's services including the Yankees, Boston Red Sox, and Toronto Blue Jays.
If the Mets do miss out on Soto, one player who will be expensive and was mentioned as a possible backup option is Milwaukee Brewers star Willy Adames by Bleacher Report's Kerry Miller.
"Shortstop is just about the only thing the Mets won't be looking to upgrade/re-sign this offseason. However, if Adames is seriously willing to shift to a different spot in the infield, the Mets have the funds to make him happy at second/third base...
"If he signs before Soto does, it's hard to imagine the Mets are going to make him the most lucrative offer. But if he's still available after Soto stays with the Yankees while the Mets only get one (or even none) of Alonso, Corbin Burnes, Max Fried, and Blake Snell, team owner Steve Cohen might throw a ridiculous number at Adames to keep what they were hoping would be a monster offseason from being a colossal bust. It sure would be a phenomenal middle infield if they can make it happen, though."
Could the slugger end up joining the Mets this offseason?
